What’s new on the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500?

The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 has just been previewed, marking a full-scale rework of GMC’s flagship pickup. Sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines anchor a lineup that also brings an all-new exterior, a completely redesigned interior, and an expanded lineup of premium technology. For Winnipeg drivers used to swinging temperatures across the seasons and long, flat stretches along the Perimeter Highway, that kind of ground-up update means a truck built to handle both extremes without losing the comfort drivers now expect. The Denali Ultimate leads the range on technology and refinement, while the AT4X pushes off-road capability further than any Sierra before it. GMC has confirmed the first 2027 Sierra 1500 models are on track to reach dealerships before the end of the 2026 calendar year, with detailed specifications to be shared closer to that date.

Sixth-Generation Small Block V8s

Sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines, offered in 5.7L and 6.6L displacements, form the core of the next-generation Sierra’s powertrain lineup. GMC points to advances in combustion, cooling, and control systems built to enhance refinement while reinforcing durability on- and off-road, along with a new fuel injection system aimed at optimizing power and torque from daily driving through towing.

TurboMax and Duramax Diesel

The lineup also includes an enhanced TurboMax engine delivering class-leading standard torque and a class-exclusive Duramax diesel, with every available engine paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Detailed technical specifications, including exact horsepower and torque figures, haven’t been released yet and are expected closer to the truck’s on-sale date.

Technology

The Denali Ultimate offers the most extensive technology package GMC has ever fitted to a Sierra, with more than 60 inches of combined available digital displays — the most in its class. Highlights include a new 16.3-inch diagonal infotainment screen with class-exclusive articulation and hidden storage, an 11.5-inch front passenger screen with an articulating cover, a 12.2-inch Driver Information Centre, and a 15-inch multicolour Head-Up Display that projects speed, navigation, and available driver-assistance alerts onto the windshield. An 8.5-inch Rear Camera Mirror widens the view behind the truck, useful when the bed is loaded or a trailer is hitched.

Standard on the Denali Ultimate is a three-year Super Cruise subscription with trailering capability, allowing hands-free driving on more than 965,000 kilometres of compatible roads across Canada and the United States, even while towing. Automatic Lane Change and Turn Signal Initiated Lane Change add further support on the long, straight highways surrounding Winnipeg.

Exterior

Nearly every exterior line on the 2027 Sierra 1500 has been redrawn, with GMC describing the new look as sharper and more machine-precise, built around a stance meant to feel more planted at highway speed. The truck’s familiar headlamp and taillamp shapes carry through the redesign, now joined by available welcome and farewell light animations and GMC’s signature WOM lighting cues. A taller, more vertical grille gives the front fascia a squared, purposeful look suited to a truck that spends its winters clearing snow and its summers hauling equipment across the prairies.

Trim-specific details, including available quad exhaust outlets on select models, help set each version of the Sierra apart. AT4X goes furthest with an exclusive hood design and a 2-inch suspension lift, adding the clearance drivers appreciate on rural grid roads outside the Perimeter. GMC’s approach here favours distinct trim personalities over a single shared design across the range.

Interior

Inside, the cabin has been rebuilt across every trim level, introducing exclusive colourways and upgraded materials throughout. Available real wood trim accents run through the lineup, stepping up to forged wood on the Denali Ultimate, while an available panoramic sunroof brings in noticeably more natural light than earlier Sierra generations. Crew cab front-row head and leg room is now class-leading, a meaningful upgrade for drivers spending long hours on the road between Winnipeg and outlying communities.

That added comfort hasn’t come at the expense of usability. The all-new available MultiPro centre console opens into an extended work surface, complete with available USB charge ports, giving drivers a functional space to manage devices and paperwork without cluttering the cabin. For tradespeople working across the city and surrounding municipalities, that kind of built-in flexibility carries real value day to day.

Versions

GMC will offer the 2027 Sierra 1500 across six trims: Pro, Elevation, AT4, Denali, Denali Ultimate, and AT4X.

  • Pro and Elevation cover the working core of the range, built for everyday capability without extra frills.
  • AT4 and AT4X take the truck off-road, with the AT4X adding Sierra-first 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, new Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, and front and rear e-locking differentials not offered elsewhere in its class.
  • Denali and Denali Ultimate top the lineup, pairing standard V8 power with the most premium materials and complete technology package GMC has built into a Sierra.
  • Buyers looking for even more off-road capability will still be able to add the AEV Edition package once the truck arrives.
